David Ritmeester was a son of the metal processor Hartog Ritmeester; his mother was deceased. He was a matress maker by trade. 499446, his wife, was a daughter of the merchant Salomon Scheffer and of Roosje Wertheim.
They married in Westerbork transit camp on 3 August 1942. Gerrit Scheffer, a brother of Heintje's, was a witness at the marriage ceremony. He co-signed the marriage certificate.
