Meijer Rubens was a son of Herschel Hartog Rubens and Betje Kattenburg. He married Grietje Veerman in 1917 in Amsterdam. Sophia Sacksionie was their daughter-in-law. Meijer Rubens was first a frame maker and later a travelling salesman for draperies.
