Heiman van Hessen was a son of Bernard van Hessen and Frouwke van Dam. He married Clara Bloch on 11 Febuary 1909 in Amsterdam, daughter of Israel Bloch and Sara Maria Keizer. The couple had two sons, of whom Bernard did not survive the Holocaust.
