Jacob C. Melkman (also known as Jaap) was married. The couple lived in Amsterdam. They had no children. He was a publicity consultant by trade.
Jaap Melkman worked as a main distributor for the Parool group. On 1 February 1942, he was picked up in Amsterdam. During the first court case against Parool staff members in December 1942, he was condemned to death. He was executed at the airfield of Soesterberg, at the age of 40.
