Jonas Wertheim was a son of Salomon Wertheim and Sipora Stijsel. He married 24 November 1897 in Amsterdam to Rebecka Levij, daughter of Lazarus Levij and Clara Mozes Juchenheim. The couple had ten children together of whom Henriette, married to Abraham David Schönholz, survived the Holocaust. There were also two daughters who have died at young age: Sally, 10 years old in 1918 and Rozina, 19 years in 1929. The other seven children were all killed by the nazis: Sipora, Clara, Keetje, Lion, Anna, Levie and Meijer.
