Jacob Presser was a son of Gompert Presser and Grietje van Bergen from Weesp. He married Klaartje Goudeketting, daughter of Benjamin Goudeketting and Mietje Teeboom in Amsterdam on 4 December 1912. The couple had six children together: Mina, Gerrit, Saartje, Esther, Roosje and the in 1932 married Greta

Before the war, Jacob Presser earned a living as a rag-and-bone man. As a merchant in scrap iron, he also bought lead and zinc of a befriend plumber.
