Ernst Adolf Wallach was the son of Samuel Wallach and Mathilde Kahn. Ernst married twice. He was the one of the owners of the firm Buchhandlung Dr. Ernst Wallach in Graf Adolfstrasse in Düsseldorf, which was also the street where he lived. In 1933 he moved to Amsterdam, where he lived on Hoofdweg, in Kerkstraat and in Falkstraat. His household included a cat named Schnurri.
