Joseph Vos, born on 9 May 1910 in Amsterdam as a son of Isaäc Vos and Mietje Visser, was a tailor by profession. He married on 18 March 1942 in Amsterdam Alida van der Horst, a daughter of Karel van der Horst and Reintje Turksma and was born on 12 November 1917 in Meppel.
Joseph Vos lived in since 31 May 1935 with his parents in the Cilliersstraat 27 ground floor in Amsterdam-East, but moved on 2 February 1942 to Roerstraat 99 2nd floor in Amsterdam-South. Alida van der Horst arrived from Meppel in Amsterdam already on 13 June 1919 and lived at various addresses in the city. After being married to Joseph Vos, she moved in with him in the Roerstraat 99 on 2 April 1942.
On 20 June 1943, a large-scale raid was held, which was secretly prepared by the German occupiers, and more than 5500 Jews were arrestend then. Also two Vos families, namely the Salomon Vos family and the Joseph Vos family.
Salomon Vos, born 29 August 1911 resided since 1941 officially in the Ruyschstraat 74, together with his wife Celine Veffer, who was born in 1916, and with their baby son Jacques, who was born in 1943. This address is stated on the archive cards of the family at the City Archive of Amsterdam and at the registration cards of the file cabinet of the Jewish Council. However, the cards for Celine and Jacques show - according a "Hopla listing" also another addres, namely Roerstraat 99.
At Roerstraat 99 2nd floor in Amsterdam-South, lived the couple Joseph Vos, who was married on 18 March 1942. He was born on 9 May 1910 in Amsterdam and his wife, Alida van der Horst was born in 1917 in Meppel. However, a family relationship between both Vos families could not be established so far.
Salomon Vos, his wife Celine and their baby Jacques were arrested that 20th of June 1943 and carried off to Westerbork, where they had to stay for some weeks, waiting for their deportation. On 13 July they were put on transport to Sobibor were on arrival there on 16 July 1943 they have been killed immediately in the gas chambers there.
Joseph Vos and his wife Alida van der Horst were arrested that same 20th of June 1943 and carried off to Westerbork, where they had to stay in barracks 63 and 65, waiting for their deportation too. On 29 June they were put on transport to Sobibor and on arrival there on 2 July 1943, they were both killed immediately in the gas chambers there.
