Klaartje Degen was a daughter of Machiel Degen and Klara Engelander. She married in Amsterdam on 22 August 1888 to David Bril, who passed away on 26 December 1906. The couple had six children, among them Joseph Bril, who lived at another address during the war and who was married to Angelica Rebecca Wortelboer. Two other childeren, Gonad and Barend, have survived the Holocaust. Barend's wife however, Christina Hijman, together with three of her children, did not survive the war.
