About Jacques Herbert Buzaglo

Jacques Herbert Buzaglo studied medicine in Amsterdam. As a student, he was involved in student organizational affairs as a board member of the S.I.D. organization for student aid, as chairman of the Centraal Studentenbureau in Amsterdam and as a member of the Dutch chapter of the International Students Service. He sat for his medical finals on 19 December 1934. That year he also became regular officer of health, second class, with the Dutch army and served as such at the military hospital in The Hague until 1937, when he was transferred to Amersfoort. During that period he contributed an article on the Portuguese-Jewish community in The Hague to the yearbook 'Die Haghe'. Jacques Herbert Buzaglo was the senior medical officer at de Joodse Invalide on the Weesperplein in Amsterdam. He was married to Emmy Ester Senior Coronel. Emmy Ester Senior Coronel studied medicine in Amsterdam, where she sat for her medical finals on 18 January 1939. Like her husband, she worked at the Joodse Invalide. The couple had two children: Aron Joost and Victor Jochanan. The Nazis held Jacques Herbert Buzaglo responsible for hiding the synagogue silver of the Joodse Invalide. Fearing that others might be punished in his place, he surrendered.
