Jakob Neuberger came to the Netherlands from Poland via Germany in 1915. He studied medicine in Leiden, where he sat for his medical finals on 3 July 1925. He took his PhD degree in Leiden in May 1927 for his thesis on a contribution to the knowledge about the icterus neonatorum. He spent a while as a registrar in Vienna and then left for Semarang in the Dutch East Indies. Upon returning to the Netherlands, he opened a medical practice at 48b Mathenesserweg in Rotterdam with special office hours for haematological disorders and morphological blood examinations. He was married to Bertha Leuvenberg. The couple had two children: Theo and Conny.
In October 1942 the Sicherheitspolizei in The Hague requested that Jakob Neuberger and his wife Bertha Neuberger-Leuvenberg be located and detained. They resided at 48b Mathenesserweg in Rotterdam.
