Martha Akker was the second daughter of Louis Akker and Hendrika van der Wijk. She lived in Hoogeveen with her parents. After her parents divorced in the mid twenties she was raised with other relatives. Shortly before she was deported she obtained her certificate as a trained nurse in the Apeldoornse Bos.
