Willem Willing had married in May 1940 for the second time. From his first marriage he had two daughters who both survived the war. By order of the occupying forces Willem Willing, his wife and father-in-law had to move to Amsterdam. A short time later Willem Willing decided to go into hiding in a guesthouse on the Prinsengracht in Amsterdam. His wife was forced to go into hiding on a different location. On 21 August 1943 however they were arrested and transferred to Westerbork transit camp. During his stay in the prison barrack in Westerbork Willem Willing has kept a diary. In January 2005 this diary was published under the title: “Afdrukken van indrukken. Diary and Letters from Westerbork. “
