Johan Kann was one of the five children of Jacobus Henricus Kann and Adriana Kann-Polak Daniel. He was married to an American woman and had three childrren. His wife and children got permission to leave the Netherlands in 1941. Johan was at the last moment forbidden to travel with them. He tried to go to England from Scheveningen, but was betrayed.
