About Selma van Hasselt

Selma van Hasselt was a member of the resistance. At first she helped with the distribution of the illegal newspaper 'Trouw'. Later she became a courier for the leaders of the National Strong-Arms Branche (LKP) of the resistance. Selma van Hasselt was arrested in January 1944. She was recognised by a former classmate, who had joined the SS.

Selma van Hasselt was arrested in the slow train from Arnhem to Utrecht on friday 28 January 1944, at 6.20 p.m. Selma van Hasselt carried with her a false identification card according to which she was Selma van Heuven, born on 9 March 1918, being a nurse and living in Arnhem at Laan van Klarenbeek 42. A friend who worked at for the towns clecks department of Achttienhoven and Westbroek, had given it her. After a long interrogation, Selma van Hasselt confessed and was handed over to de Sicherheitsdienst in Arnhem.
