Gaye Chelem was a daughter of Itzik Chelem and Hanna Behr. She married in Amsterdam on 8 June 1938 to Marcus van Crefeld, son of Samuel van Crefeld and Mietje Blitz. The couple had one daughter: Mirjam Hanna.
Marcus van Crefeld survived the Holocaust and was married again in 1947.
Gaye's siblings were Salomon, Lea and Fride. Her sister Sila and her husband and her sister Suzanna, (married to Meijer Denneboom), survived the Holocaust.
