Debora Gans, also known as Bora, was the daughter of David Gans and Frederika (Fratchen) Schwartz. Her father had a butcher shop at the Wooldstraat in Winterswijk.
Bora Gans had five sisters: Mathilda Helena Betha Emma, Suzanna, Bethje and two sisters who survived the war.

Debora Mogendorff-Gans grew up in a butchers family with six children. Debora was the younghest daughter.
The neighbors of Debora Mogendorff-Gans and Heiman Mogendorff remember the couple being deported from Winterswijk with horse and wagon. Debora was very brave. During theride to Westerbork, she sang songs, one of them being the national hymn.
