Samuel Onderwijzer was a son of Levie Onderwijzer and Cato Leemans. Levie and Cato had six children, of which four have passed away before the war. His sister Eliseba was killed in Sobibor at the same day as he himself.
Samuel Onderwijzer married in Amsterdam on 6 February 1906 to Heintje de Wilde, who was born in 1877 and who was a daughter of Jacob de Wilde and Ester Cohen. She survived the Holocaust.
