Maurits van Gelder was married. He and his wife had two children. The family lived in Amsterdam. Maurits van Gelder was a dealer in ship's provisions. He worked for the Communistische Partij Nederland [Dutch communist party] (CPN) in the resistance. He was arrested on 30 June 1941 because of the February strike and deported to Mauthausen from Schoorl via Amersfoort. Maurits van Gelder's wife survived the war.
