Bernard Gans was the son of David Gans and Saartje Kijkerk. He was married to Estella Visschschraper. The couple had one child.

The wife and the child of Bernard Gans survived the war. During the crossing from Harwich to Hook of Holland, in August 1945, Estella Gans-Vischschraper died due to an asthma attack.
