Johnny van Voolen was registered as a 'strafgeval' (singled out for punishment) in Westerbork on 3 July 1943. He was put in barrack 67. People who were a 'strafgeval' usually had gone into hiding, but were caught. On 31 August he was deported with his parents to Auschwitz.
