Sally de Jong was the son of Godfried de Jong and Betsij Aleng.

Sally de Jong studied medicine in Amsterdam, where he sat for his medical finals in 1939. He took his PhD degree in Amsterdam on 3 October 1940 for his thesis 'The excretion of aneurin in urine, and related problems.' Sally de Jong was married to Elisabeth van Male. Their two children survived the war.
