In March 1939, Alfred Guttmann came to the Netherlands with a so-called Children's Transport. After spending time in quarantine and in an orphanage in Rotterdam, he was adopted by a family in Haarlem. He lived with this family at the Wilhelminastraat untill August 1940. His second host family also lived in Haarlem, at the Kinderhuissingel. They were forced to move to Amsterdam in May 1942. Alfred Guttmann was deported to Westerbork on 20 June 1943.
One sibling of Alfred Guttmann who had also fled to the Netherlands survived the war.
