Joseph Canes was a son of Jesaias Canes and Matje Fransman. He married 2 January 1990 in Amsterdam to Klaartje Viskoper, a daughter of Mozes Jacob Viskoper and Rebekka Trijtel.
Klaartje Viskoper however, passed away on 25 October 1926 and was interred in the Jewish Cemetery in Diemen.
The Canes couple had ten children, of whom three children died already at a very young age. The others, Rebecca, Mietje, Mozes, Jansje, Jesaija, Heintje and Betsij, have been killed during the Holocaust.
