About Heinz Rolf Horwitz

Heinz Rolf Horwitz fled from Germany to the Netherlands, where he found shelter in Ruinen on 14 January 1939. He was called Honki. From Ruinen he was assigned to 93 Schelmseweg in Arnhem, a venue for Palestine Pioneers. In December he was given a spot on the Kraaijebeek estate on the Hoofdstraat in Driebergen, another venue for Palestine Pioneers.
On 21 February 1940 he became a ward at the youth aliyah home on the Hof van Moerkerken in Mijnsheerenland. He remained there until the home was closed on 16 October 1940, after which he and a few other wards moved to the youth aliyah home in Loosdrecht, the Paviljoen Loosdrechtse Rade. On 2 September 1942 he was transferred to the youth aliyah home in Elden, Huize Voorburg. This home in the South of Arnhem was intended for older Palestine pioneers (ages 16 to 19). He stayed there until 31 December 1942.

Heinz Rolf Horwitz was deported from Westerbork to Bergen-Belsen, where he was put to work in the crematorium. Because the Nazis wanted to keep this type of work secret, he was deported to Neuengamme after a while.
