Biography

About David Cohen

David Cohen was a son of Abraham Cohen and Judith Allegro.
Municipal Archive Amsterdam, birth certificate David Cohen

For about thirteen years, David Cohen lived together with a non-Jewish woman. The couple wasn't married because David was worried that a marriage would bring his wife and children in danger in light of the rising Nazism in Germany. They had 5 children together. All of them survived the war. David Cohen sold textiles - shirts and socks - at the Albert Cuijp market and other markets. He was very close with his younger sister Jansje and used to go to the synagoge with her. He also went with her when she was deported, for her sake and in order to protect his children.
David Cohen had another brother and sister, both of them married to a non-Jewish partner, and two half-brothers.
