About Frederika Sophia Cohen

Frederieka Sophia Cohen (known as Fré) was the daughter of Levie Cohen and Esther Sarlie. She was the first well-known female graphic designer in Amsterdam. Her designs for the city of Amsterdam included the first-class marriage certificate, coats of arms, letterheads, school certificates etc.
In 1942 Fré Cohen went into hiding in Borne. She was arrested there, probably because someone had tipped off the Germans. When she was about to be deported she committed suicide by taking poison. She died in a hospital in Hengelo.
