Karel Gans was put to work in camp Balderhaar on 10 July 1942. This was one of fifty Jewish labour camps in the Netherlands. On Saturday 3 October 1942 he was deported to Westerbork.
In the former labourcamp Balderhaar a monument was placed te remember the Groninger Jewish men who were forced to bring waste land under cultivation.
The name of Karel Gans is on the monument.
