Benjamin van Thijn was a son of Salomon van Thijn and Barbara Berg. He married a daughter of Mozes de Rooij and Sara Boeken, Rebecca de Rooij on 7 June 1898 in Zaandam but has been divorced from her on 8 September 1926, also in Zaandam.
Benjamin and Rebecca had three children: Elisabeth and Sara, who both have survived the Holocaust and Mozes.
After the divorce, Benjamin van Thijn remarried in Amsterdam on 13 October 1926 to Sara Goudsmit.
