About Samuel Lopes Cardozo

Samuel Lopes Cardozo was a son of David Lopes Cardozo and Judik (Judith) Engelander. He married in Amsterdam Roosje Hamel on 4 January 1900, a daughter of Israel Meijer Hamel and Heintje Mozes van der Kar. The couple had six children, of whom Wolf and Julia have been born in Antwerp. Certain is that Julia has survived the war. Of the other four children, Hendrika and David have survived the war too; Israel and Barend have been killed during the Holocaust.
Samuel Lopes Cardozo had several siblings. One of his brothers was Wolf Lopes Cardozo, who was married to Kate Baruch from London and who's daughter Margaretha has lived a considerable time till 1920 in the family of Samuel and Roosje in Amsterdam.
Samuel Lopes Cardozo was a diamon worker and resided a great part of his time in Antwerp with his family. Together with his wife Roosje Hamel, he was deported from Mechelen to Auschwitz on 1 Sepember 1942. According the Antwerp court certificate of death, he and his wife have died in Auschwitz on 4 September 1942.
His latest known address in Antwerp was Korte van Ruusbroecstraat nr. 47.
