Julius van Dam studied medicine in Amsterdam. He sat for his medical finals on 21 June 1902. He specialised as a surgeon and as a gynaecologist and he practised as such at 46 Kortenaerstraat in Enschede. Julius van Dam was married and had two children.

Julius van Dam was married to a non-Jewish woman. He sold his practice in February 1941. In the late sixties the Dr J van Damstraat in Enschede was named after him.
