Israel de Lange ("Issie") initially was the one member of his family who was able to remain in Amsterdam. He stayed with one of his aunts, who was married to a non-Jew. After his complete family was deported, he chose to live at his Jewish uncles' home in de Lange Houtstraat. He was picked up with Philip de Lange and his family.
