Lion Polak attended the gymnasium (pre-university secondary school) in Middelburg. He was in hiding on a houseboat in Breukelerveen. He compiled and distributed news bulletins from radio reports of the BBC.
Eventually he was caught in Breukelerveen and transferred to the Witte Huis in Nieuw Loosdrecht. He was severely tortured, and his neck was broken.
