Arthur Reens was a son of Bertha Isabella Frank. His mother was remarried to Salomon de Jong. He and the other child in the family were born in the first marriage.
Arthur Reens was very fond of his stepfather. He worked in his shop as a salesman in mens costumes. As a hobby he liked to read African itineraries and he liked Egyptology.
