Levie Smit was a son of Mietje Loonstijn. Before he married Rebecca Paes, Levie Smit was married to Sara Melkman. On 22 March 1911 his first marriage took place. In 1914 the couple lived in the Het Hop neighbourhood in Zaandam. Levie Smit and Sara Melkman had three children who all survived the war. Sara died on 30 January 1938. Levie Smit had many professions. Besides from being a shop-assistant, he was market superintendant, janitor and cigar maker.
