Salomo was a son of Simon Polak and Bettje van Rhijn, a family with in total nine children. One child died in infancy, only 1 year old and one child has survived the Holocaust. All other children, namely Carolina, Philip, Hartog, Harmannus, Bertha, Anna and Salomo self, have been killed in the Shoah.
Salomo was born in Sleen but resided and worked as merchant and office clerk in Hoogeveen. On 23 August 1905 he married Klara Nathans in Haren, a daughter of Simon Nathans and Betje de Jong. Salomo and Klara had four children together, namely Bettje (Betty), Simon, Betty Aaltje (Bep) and Caroline Bertha (Lineke). Of his daughters Bep and Lineke, a twin, Lineke passed away in 1930, only 12 years old. His son Simon was killed in the Battle of the Grebbeberg on 13 May 1940. Both other daughters Betty and Bep were killed in Auschwitz.
Salomo and his wife Klara arrived at Camp Westerbork in the early days of October 1942 and stayed in barack 60. There have been made serious efforts to effectuate the release of Salomo and Klara but without any result. On 21 November 1942 both were deported to Auschwitz were they were killed on 5 November 1942.
