Femmia was the youngest daughter of Heiman van West and Eva Menko. Her parents had five children. Femmia was a cheerful, affectionate person, who worked as a nurse at the Apeldoornse Bos. When the staff heard about the planned raid one day in advance, Femmia decided not to go into hiding but to stay with her patients.
