Israël Groen studied medicine in Leiden, where he sat for his medical finals on 2 November 1934. He opened his practice at 6 Charlotte de Bourbonstraat in The Hague. He also practised at an outpatient clinic at 24 Stille Veerkade in The Hague. Israël Groen was married to Marie Alter. They had two children, Hanna Louise and Louis David.
