The real name of Julius Godefroa was Julius Vleeskruijer. He took the surname of his mother - who lived with him and his wife - but used a different spelling: Godefroa or Godefroy. Between 1913 and 1929 he was active as the renter of feature films and he was the founder and editor of the magazine De Kinematograaf (1913-1918). In 1929 he stopped hiring out and he also stepped down as member of the Board of Appeal of the Dutch Cinema Association. From 1926 to 1929 he led the Luxor Theater, then in 1936 he was director of the Ooster Theater. In that latter role, he worked together with his wife, Charlotte Jacobs.
