Hijman Doof married Sara Sterk in Westerbork transit camp on 30 July 1942. He was a typographer by profession. On the wedding day his father, Simon Doof, had already passed away; his mother, the widow Betje Doof-van Dam, lived in Amsterdam.
Sara Sterk was a seamstress. She was a daughter of the butcher Tobias Sterk. Her mother survived the war. Her parents lived in Amsterdam.
