Mordechai Vas Dias lived at 42 Amstelkade in Amsterdam. His brother received a declaration dated 18 December 1946 from the Information office of the Dutch Red Cross stating that Mordechai Vaz Dias had been killed on 6 September 1944 in Auschwitz. His brother refused to accept this because he had evidence that Mordechai had been sent from Auschwitz to Dachau on 28 January 1945 and that he had arrived there alive and then died on 5 April 1945. The Red Cross subsequently changed the place and date in his death notice.
