Mathilda Cohen was first married to Bernard Slijper. She used to work as a maid for the Slijper family. When the first wife of Bernard Slijper passed away, Mathilda took care of the family. From the marriage that followed two children were born, among whom Elizabeth Slijper. The family then lived at Binnen Amstel 296, across of the Carré theatre.
