Hendrika van der Wijk was a daughter of Abraham Gabriel van der Wijk and Rachel Levie. She married 491417 in 1907 in Weesp. They had four children, of whom two survived the war. The other two children were Martha and Lea. The family lived in Hoogeveen. She divorced from her husband in the mid twenties. Because she could not cope with raising her children anymore they were housed elsewhere. At the start of the fourties she already lived in the Joodse Invalide in Amsterdam.
