Maria Casoetto was an unmarried daughter of David Casoetto and Betje Salomons. She had five other siblings, namely Anna, Maurice, Helena, Samuel and Philip, all born in Amsterdam. The Casoetto family lived at Nieuwe Prinsengracht 56. moved 29 September 1894 to Kerkstraat 404 but exchanged Amsterdam for Antwerp per 24 August 1895 where they came to live at Lange Ruijsbroekstraat 110.
Between Octobe 1903 and October 1905 all lived at Museumstraat 36 at Borgerhout and in December 1928 at Wilrijkschevest 72. Since January 1936 Maria's address was Desguinlei 228 in Berchem.
Maria’s parents passed already before the war in Antwerp. Her sibs have all survived the Holocaust. Only Maria was deported 15 August 1942 with another 999 persons with Convoy III from Mechelen to Auschwitz. She has been officially unsubscribed from the Population Register of the City of Antwerp from her address Desguinlei 228, for which she had a residence permit until 11 April 1943.
Of the 1000 deportees in total who arrived 17 August 1942 in Auschwitz, 362 were registered and went in the camp. The others, among them Maria Casoetto, were immediately killed in the gas chambers. Of the registered prisoners eventually only five persons have survived the horrors of the Shoah.
