About Rudolf Mayer

Wiegman wrote: 'On 2 December 1943, the body of a man, dressed in pyamas, was found by the Butgemeester Stroinkstraat. The chief of the criminal investigation bureau of Enschede was ordered by Schröber of the Sicherheitsdienst to investigate the matter. The chairman of the Jewish Council recognised the remains as the famous Jew Rudolf Israël Mayer, 67 years old, who had been living at 33 M.H. Tromplaan.

The investigation did not produce any results. Mayer had actually been in hiding with the chief of the criminal investigation bureau of Enschede and he had died a natural death there. Said chief had himself put the remains out on the street overnight.'
