About Meijer Barend Zwaab

Meijer Barend Zwaab was a son of Barend Meijer Zwaab and Hanne Mooses Stroos. On 24 July 1872 he married at the town hall of Bergh the 14 year older Grietje Liefman from Doetinchem (born in 1833), a daughter of Judik Liefman. The couple had two children: Barend who died in Bergh in July 1873, 5 months old and Bahrend Moses, who died also in Bergh in January 1879, only 11 days old.
Meijer's first wife Grietje passed away in January 1919 at 's-Heerenberg, aged 85, and Meijer married again to Hinda Moskovitsch on the 7th of August of that same year. She was the widow of Gustave Spielmann of Arnhem, who died in January 1918. Hinda was 31 years old and born in Bendin in Russia as a daughter of Jacques Moskovitsch and Marie Heleen Hörsch.
Hinda, as well her daughter Johanna Spielmann from her first marriage, have survived the Holocaust.
During the war in 1943, Meijer Zwaap was able to escape from the persecution and deportation by getting into hiding in the Municipality of Wisch. There he passed away at his hiding address on 18 April 1944.
