The fate of Siegfried Wijnschenk

Siegfried Wijnschenk was born in Soerabaya on June 9, 1912, to Abraham and Heindje or Heintje Van Engers. he was married to Stephanie Louise Rappenecker, from Frankfurt (Germany), who was Catholic. They had no children. He settled in Amsterdam in 1940 and opened a furrier's shop at Keizersgracht 298, while living at Cliostraat 8 B. He was professionally associated with Benedictus Wijnman. Under the Nazi Occupation, both men could work for the Germans for a while, but had to flee at the end of April 1942, having been threatened by the Gestapo. They chose to go to Switzerland, leaving their families. But they could remain in Switzerland only until August 27, 1942, despite of the fact that they had been granted asylum by the Swiss civil authority. It seems that the Swiss military police wanted to get rid of them, and expelled them to Occupied France, where they immediately were arrested, imprisoned in Champagnole (Jura), sent to Drancy, and soon to Auschwitz, on September 18, 1942.
