Saartje Lam was a daughter of Benedictus Lam and Duifje Dresden. She married 12 December 1934 in Amsterdam the widower Joseph Polak, who was born 8 January 1871 in Amsterdam. Joseph was previously married, on 1 April 1891 in Amsterdam, to Marianne Dotsch, a daughter of Aron Dotsch and Duifje Waas who passed away on 3 November 1933 in Amsterdam, aged 62 years. From that marriage ten children have been born, of whom two have died in childhood. The others and their families have been killed in the Holocaust.
Saartje Lam and Joseph Polak resided together at Ruyschstraat 116 II in Amsterdam, where Joseph, two years after his wedding, has died on 20 May 1936. He was interred the 22-nd of that month in the Jewish Cemetery in Diemen. Saartje self was killed in Sobibor on 2 April 1943.
Saartje Lam was born into a family with ten children. Two of them died in childhood; one brother left in 1912 to New York, aged 26 years. Her sisters Marianne, Mietje and Elisabeth, as also her brothers Simon, Samuel and Zadok have been killed too during the Holocaust.
