Samuel Lam was a son of Benedictus Lam and Duifje Dresden. He was a vendor in in oddments and had a standing place at the streetmarket at Waterlooplein, for which he had received a permit in 1924 from the Amsterdam Municipality. He married 16 July 1913 Judith Vreeland in Amsterdam, a daughter of Machiel Vreeland and Sara Polak. The couple had six daughters; two of them have survived the Holocaust but the others have been killed in the Shoah. On 29 and 30 March 1943 Samuel and his wife Judith arrived in transit camp Westerbork where they stayed in barack 72, 36 and 60. Early April, several attempts were made at the "Antragstelle" by means of a descendancy study to be exempted from further deportations. However, on 7 September 1943 Samuel and Judith have been still deported to Auschwitz where they were killed upon arrival there, on 10 September 1943.
