About Frederika Gomperts-Philips

Frederika Philips was the 2nd spouse of Henri Gomperts, a son of Barend Philipp Gomperts and Eva Meijer, who became a widower from Rachel Cornelia Citroen in 1922. Frederika was a daughter of Simon Jacobus Philips and Helena Margaretha Ornstein. The civil marriage as well the chupah has taken place on 3 January 1933 in Amsterdam. Frederika became the stepmother of Ernst Henri Gomperts, who was born in 1914.

According notes on her registration card of the Jewish Council, Frederika Philips was a member of the school board of the Amsterdam Nijverheidsschool (industrial school). She has been registered in Camp Westerbork on 20 Juni 1943 and had to stay in barack 58. Also her husband was registered that same day but stayed in barack 63. Frederika and her husband were "gesperrt" (safeguarded) for deportation (for the time being) because of the function of her husband Henri, who was president of the SA Rudelsheim Foundation, an intstitution for mentally retarded children.

Frederika and Henri Gomperts eventually have been still put on transport; on 15 Februari 1944 both were deported to Bergen Belsen, where Frederika Philips lost her life on 26 June 1944. Her husband Henri lost his life there on 18 July 1944. Her stepson Ernst Henri was already deported on 19 Juli 1942 from Drancy to Auschwitz, where he has been killed.
